The New Orleans Saints are still technically alive in the NFC playoff race, although you wouldn’t want to be going to the bank on their chances. These teams will meet up in the Monday night game at 8:30 PM ET at the Superdome in New Orleans, and although it is not an “important” game as far as the post-season is concerned, it will probably present an interesting matchup between quarterbacks who can really pout up some numbers. Soon the team responded, with three straight victories, all very impressive, against Green Bay, Philadelphia and Oakland. And there was hope that this team may be able to keep itself alive. But then came the Hail Mary pass from Aaron Rodgers to Richard Rodgers that brought the Packers the last-minute win in the rematch. That really took the air out of this team’s tires, as they were flat against St. Louis last week in the 21-14 defeat. So the question is whether they can recapture some intensity here.

Yes, we know that the Saints are trying to make a move toward better defense, as they got rid of coordinator Rob Ryan and replaced him with Dennis Allen. They did a pretty good job last week against Tampa Bay, holding the Bucs below 300 yards. And New Orleans is playing without former Heisman winner Mark Ingram, their most dependable running back, and they have had to use Tim Hightower, cut twice previously this season by the club, at the position. That may drive Drew Brees more toward the air, and he has already thrown it 497 times. He will likely go over the 4000-yard mark in this game.
Detroit has a few milestones to look at, including the possibility Calvin Johnson going over the 1000-yard mark in receiving yards.
