It’s a Battle For Lone Star Supremacy as Cowboys Host Texans

By Charles Jay

The Dallas Cowboys have looked very much like a well-oiled machine lately, and it is because they have developed some great balance on offense. They are also coming off one of their most satisfying wins in years. On Sunday they will engage in a battle for bragging rights in the Lone Star State, as they take on the Houston Texans, in pro football betting action that will get underway at 1 PM ET at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX.

In the pro football odds that have been posted on this game by the folks at VietBet, the Cowboys are laying some points:

Dallas Cowboys -6.5 (-115), Houston Texans +6.5 (-105)
Over 47 Points -110, Under 47 Points -110

The Cowboys got payback last Sunday night against the New Orleans Saints, who had run up 40 first downs and 625 total yards against them in a 49-17 romp last season. This time around, it was no contest, as Dallas got off to an early lead by electing to receive the ball on the opening kickoff, and proceeded to destroy the Saints to the tune of a 38-17 final.

The Texans, who like the Cowboys are 3-1 straight-up and against the football pointspread, stumbled at the Meadowlands against the New York Giants a couple of weeks ago, but came back with a nice defensive effort against Buffalo last week in a 23-17 win.

Houston’s offense did not have a sterling effort against the Bills, amassing just 301 yards. The ground game had just 37 yards, with Arian Foster, who is bothered by a hamstring injury, held to six yards on eight carries. This is in stark contrast to what the Cowboys have done on the ground. DeMarco Murray is rapidly establishing himself as one of the league; premier backs, as he has 534 yards already (5.4 ypc). Dallas has actually run the ball more times than they have passed it, and that is something that may have been shocking to VietBet patrons a year ago. This helps Tony Romo, who has been sacked only once in the last two games.

Dallas’ pass blockers will be tested by Houston’s JJ Watt, who has basically doing everything for this team. Against Oakland he caught a touchdown pass, and last week he returned an interception 80 yards for a TD. The Cowboys will try to get tight end Jason Witten to give some help in containing Watt’s oncoming rushes.

Pro football bettors at VietBet who may be thinking about the Texans here are probably a little concerned that Ryan Fitzpatrick is getting error-prone again. He has been intercepted five times in the last two games. And so the cries have gone out for Ryan Mallett, who was recently acquired from New England. This is what makes it important for Foster (247 yards this year) to get healthy and help keep the pressure off Fitzpatrick.

Both of these teams have surrendered five yards per rushing attempt. Dallas’ defense has been short on personnel since training camp, and it just got shorter, as the Cowboys have lost cornerback Morris Claiborne for the rest of the season and linebacker Bruce Carter for at least the next couple of games.
