Jets Make a Move at Quarterback – Will it Matter Against Chiefs?

By Charles Jay

There is absolutely no question that the boo birds are out in the Meadowlands, as the New York Jets are watching their season get flushed down the toilet. NFL bettors who have been placing their wagers at VietBet all season long almost feel sorry for beleaguered coach Rex Ryan, whose head is very clearly on the chopping block. Ryan and others around the Jets’ camp seemed to be very hopeful about second-year quarterback Geno Smith and his ability to make it in the NFL, but things are not going smoothly at all, and the Jets are suffering as a result. So they’ve made the decision to replace Smith with backup Michael Vick in advance of Sunday afternoon’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Football betting action gets underway at Arrowhead Stadium at 1 PM ET.

If you are a Jets fan, you may want to stop reading this, but we will go over some of the stats regarding Smith right now: he has thrown 10 interceptions this season and completed only 56% of his passes, with an average of slightly under six yards per attempt. He has also been sacked 15 times. And the Jets have averaged just 4.7 yards per offense and play, which is pitiful.

Meanwhile, after losing their first two games of the season, the Chiefs have regrouped, coming back to win four of their last five. So they are definitely in “up” mode as they play host to the stumbling, fumbling, bumbling Jets.

NFL betting line – Jets vs Chiefs – Kansas City is laying a lot of points:

New York Jets +9

Under 42 points -110

In all fairness to Smith, we should also mention that Vick, the former #1 overall NFL draft pick who went through that scandal with animal cruelty before having his career revived by current Kansas City coach Andy Reid in Philadelphia, has suffered on the stat sheet as well. Vick has completed only 26 of his 56 throws, and has turned the ball over three times. He has also been sacked seven times, or once for every eight passing attempts. His average of 3.6 yards per pass is not awe-inspiring. But this is what the Jets are left with.

NFL bettors have been wondering what kind of an effect Percy Harvin would have with the Jets, and they will probably see more of that this week. In last week’s game against Buffalo, Harvin carried the ball four times, caught three passes and returned kickoffs. New York acquired him for his big-play ability, and to complement the other wide receiver, Eric Decker, who seemed to benefit from it with seven catches against the Bills.

There is another Smith quarterbacking in this game. His name is Alex, and like Vick, he was once the #1 draft choice in the NFL. But this particular Smith, who was erratic in the season opener against Tennessee when he threw three interceptions, has settled down nicely. VietBet customers know that one of the things that made the Chiefs so successful last season was that they really took care of the ball, and that is what Smith has been doing in the last six games, as he has thrown only one interception.

And Kansas City has covered each and every one of those six games. You might say they are over-achieving right now, and they have been extremely efficient on third down, converting on 50.5% of their attempts. Meanwhile, the Jets have allowed 22 touchdown passes and intercepted the ball once. Do we need to say any more to NFL bettors than that?
