Vikes Hopeful with Return of Adrian Peterson Against Niners

In the 2014 season the Minnesota Vikings made some great strides, even without superstar running back Adrian Peterson, who was under a suspension that kept him out of all but one game. Now Peterson is back, and he is primed for a big season. Will he have one? If he does, that might propel the Vikings to great heights in the NFC North in Mike Zimmer’s second season at the helm. On Monday night, the Vikes open the season against the San Francisco 49ers in the second half of ESPN’s doubleheader, with the kickoff scheduled for 10:20 PM ET at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara. Peterson says he feels fresh and ready to go. Who’s going to doubt him? After he went down with an ACL injury in 2011, he came back the next year to chalk up 2097 yards on six yards an attempt. He seemed a little unhappy about coming back to the Vikings for various reasons, but they were not going to let him go. Zimmer was excited about working with him, which is one of the reasons he took the job in the first place.

San Francisco would seem to be in a period of total transition on the defensive side. They have lost a number of capable players, including Aldon Smith, Jason Smith, Patrick Willis and Chris Borland. But they do get back Navorro Bowman, who sat out last year with a knee injury. Oh yes – Jim Harbaugh left the scene as well, as he could not deal any more with management. In his place is veteran assistant Jim Tomsula.

In 2013, the Vikings allowed more points per game than anybody. But when Zimmer came aboard, they improved all the way up to 11th in his first season. if they can continue to make progress, they will be dangerous in the NFC North and in the wild card race. And they are also hoping for continued development from Teddy Bridgewater, who completed 64% of his passes as a rookie. To help him out, Zimmer went and grabbed Mike Wallace, who did not somehow connect with Ryan Tannehill in Miami but is a legitimate deep threat in the right kind of situation.

VIETBET customers should know that while many NFL betting people felt Tomsula to be a curious choice to succeed Harbaugh, he is very popular with his players. He actually had some experience in the head job, having taken over on an interim basis after Mike Singletary was fired in 2010. So in effect, Harbaugh succeeded HIM.

Regardless, Tomsula has a job on his hands, and he also must proceed without workhorse running back Frank Gore, who went to the Indianapolis Colts. The Niners hope they added an explosive element in Reggie Bush, the former Heisman winner (at least technically speaking). They also lost Michael Crabtree, but are looking for wide receiver Torrey Smith, who played with Baltimore last season, to help pick up the slack.
