Seahawks on “Bounceback” Mission as They Face Panthers

It had to be very disheartening for the Seattle Seahawks to blow a 17-point lead last week when they had victory in their grasp against the Cincinnati Bengals. But now they have to regroup, and they should not have that much of a problem as they are returning home to face a team they vanquished in last year’s playoffs. The Carolina Panthers will come to CenturyLink Field on Sunday for a game that starts at 4:05 PM ET, and subsequent to that opening kickoff, BetAnySports customers have the opportunity to stay very much in the action, as they wager on all kinds of propositions through the facilities of Live Betting Extra.

Seattle now finds itself with a 2-3 straight-up record (1-3-1 ATS), while Carolina is the undefeated team at 4-0 (3-1 against the pro football betting odds). Of course, they faced off last year in the second round of the post-season, after Carolina won its wild-card game against offensively-challenged Arizona. The Panthers hung in very gamely, but let things slip away in the fourth quarter, as Kam Chancellor made off with a 90-yard interception return for a touchdown. Make no mistake about the fact that the Seahawks know they are in for a physical battle.

And Carolina showed a lot of poise in last season’s visit to the “Link,” committing only one false-start penalty. The venue is notorious for its crowd noise, so that kind of thing is important.

Seattle got some good news late in the week, as star running back Marshawn Lynch, who had to sit out the last couple of games, has been cleared to play after being shelved with hamstring issues. He should have at least some of the pressure taken off him, however, as rookie Thomas Rawls was outstanding in his absence. Rawls has run for 326 yards, averaging 5.6 yards per carry, and had 169 yards last week against the Bengals. Unfortunately, Seattle, which held a 24-7 lead, gave up 20 unanswered points and lost that game in overtime. Head coach Pete Carroll has said that Rawls should get about 10 carries, which was a clear signal that Lynch is going to be called on for a lot of work.

Carolina gets one of its own stars back in the lineup. Middle linebacker Luke Kuechly, one of the best defensive players in football, will return after sitting out three games with a concussion. He will be of immeasurable help against this Seattle ground attack. And BetAnySports patrons should know that.

Cam Newton has not always been at his best against Seattle, and indeed his completion percentage (55.4%) is kind of low for this day and age. He was obviously handicapped a great deal with the season-ending injury to wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin, but speedster Ted Ginn has averaged 17.2 yards per catch. And of course, there is the old reliable, tight end Greg Olson (17 receptions, 243 yards).

Both of these defenses have been very stingy against opponents on third-down; Carolina has limited foes to just 39% conversions, while Seattle is just under 35%. What might hurt the Seahawks a little here is the tendency of quarterback Russell Wilson to get caught by opposition pass rushers. He has been sacked 18 times already, and that is simply inexcusable for someone who is so nimble.
