Week 1 NFL Betting – Ryan Hopes to Have the Better “Luck” in Bills’ Debut

Week 1 NFL Betting – Ryan Hopes to Have the Better Luck in Bills Debut

Rex Ryan is the new man in town in Buffalo, and he is going to try to reverse the fortunes of a franchise that has not seen the post-season in the last 15 years. Truth be told, something of a turnaround had started to take place last season, under Doug Marrone, as the Bills posted a 9-7 record. But Marrone simply was not able to get along with team management, and after Ryan was fired from his job from the Jets, he was scooped up quickly. As BetAnySports customers know, this is a tough assignment in his first game, as the Bills go up against the Indianapolis Colts, who made it to the AFC Championship Game last season and have one of the more explosive quarterbacks in the league in Andrew Luck. These teams will tangle on Sunday, September 13 at 1 PM ET at Ralph Wilson Stadium in Orchard Park, NY.

Week 1 NFL Betting – Colts vs Bills

In the Week 1 NFL betting odds posted on this game by the folks at BetAnySports, Indianapolis is laying a couple of points on the road:

Indianapolis Colts -2
Buffalo Bills +2

Over 47 points -110
Under 47 points -110

The Bills made strides last season with a gnarly defense, which finished fourth in the league in both yards and points allowed. So Ryan does not have a major makeover on his hands on that side of the ball. To bolster the offense, he went out and acquired running back LaSean McCoy from Philadelphia and added wide receiver Percy Harvin, who was with him for half the season with the Jets last year. Still, the Bills may be able to go only as far as journeyman quarterback Matt Cassel is able to take them.

For the Colts, it’s all about getting over that last hurdle. They defeated Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos on the road in a playoff game, but then were humbled by the New England Patriots in the game that seemed to inspire “Deflategate.” Some interesting additions have Indianapolis thinking higher this year.

Let’s give you the breakdown on what Luck was able to do last season in the Indianapolis offense: he threw for 4761 yards and 40 touchdowns, with eight consecutive games of 300 or more yards. He is something of a gunslinger, so it is perhaps no surprise that he threw 16 interceptions. He did all of this without the benefit of a consistent running game, and the Colts’ management went out and tried to address that in the off-season with the signing of Frank Gore, who ran for at least 1000 yards eight times for the San Francisco 49ers.

Luck is a lot like his predecessor in Indianapolis, Peyton Manning, in that he seems to have the ability to make stars out of wide receivers. TY Hilton is one of those cases, as the speedster had 1345 receiving yards last year. Now the Colts have signed a possible future Hall of Famer to work with him, as Andre Johnson came aboard as a free agent.

The Bills are going to try to do the “ground and pound,” which BetAnySports customers are familiar with from Ryan’s days with the Jets. McCoy fits into that real well, as does new acquisition Richie incognito, who was cut from Miami amidst scandal but still carries a reputation as a ferocious run-blocker.

Buffalo should be rather deep in the backfield, and with the addition of Harvin, as well as tight end Charles Clay, they will have more receiving options for Cassel, who has been in the Pro Bowl before, but has been largely inconsistent in his NFL career. Ryan needs him because there is lots of doubt as to whether EJ Manuel can become a legitimate starting NFL quarterback.
