Can the Giants Ruin Another Unbeaten New England Season?
The New England Patriots are still moving along without a defeat, but on Sunday they will be facing an old nemesis. Those analysts of the NFL odds who were around when the Patriots went into the Super Bowl with an undefeated record saw them lose to the underdog New York Giants. Well, they are laying points against Tom Coughlin’s team once again, although the Giants have not been playing with enough consistency to inspire a lot of confidence right now. This game begins at 4:25 PM ET at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ, and Vietbet customers who are following the action on CBS can also place wagers in real-time through the considerable facilities of Live Betting Extra.
In the NFL odds that have been posted on this game by the people at Vietbet, the Patriots are laying some points on the road:
- New England Patriots -7.5 (-105)
- New York Giants +7.5 (-115)
- Over 54 points -110
- Under 54 points -110
Tom Brady continues to amaze. The future Hall of Fame quarterback is having one of his greatest seasons; not only has he completed 69% of his throws, but he has 22 touchdown passes and only two interceptions. It seems that whoever he is teaming up with, he can make a successful combination with. And remember that the Pats have built and 8-0 record with tremendous numbers despite the fact that they have had to shuffle the offensive line all season long.
The Giants got off to a tough start, losing double-digit fourth-quarter leads in their first two games, the only team in 90 years to do that. They regrouped with three straight victories, but since then they have been alternating wins and losses. Last week they scored a 32-18 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, so this actually puts them atop the NFC East with a 5-4 record (6-3 ATS). New England is 5-2-1 against the football pointspread.
Once again, Rob Gronkowski will be the area of major concern for a New England opponent. Gronk is considered the premier tight end in the league, and he’s averaged 15.8 yards per reception. Brady also makes use of his “Smurf” receiver, Julian Edelman, who has caught 57 passes in the first half of the season. LeGarrette Blount is a punishing runner, and the Giants have sagged a little in terms of their rushing defense, but New England also suffered a tough blow this past week, in that they lost Dion Lewis, who was third on the team in receptions as well as a useful running back averaging 4.8 yards a pop, with an ACL injury. He is gone for the rest of the year.
For the edification of Vietbet patrons, there are some banged up people on New England’s offensive front. Sebastian Vollmer, who plays left tackle, has not practiced and is listed as questionable with a head injury. Tre Jackson, one of the rookies on the line, is dealing with a knee injury, and we already know that Vollmer has replaced the original starting left tackle, Nate Solder, who is out for the year.
The Giants brought back Jason Pierre-Paul, their beleaguered defensive end who blew off his index finger in a very bizarre Fourth of July fireworks accident. It was thought by some that he might come back slowly, but they actually had a been there for 73% of the defensive snaps against Tampa Bay, so we guess we can consider him to be a regular part of what is going on. He is considered a premier pass rusher, so if he is regaining form he can put a lot of pressure on that offensive line AND consequently Brady on Sunday.
