Romo’s Back For Cowboys Against Dolphins
The Dallas Cowboys were hoping that by this point in the season, they would at least be in a nice position for the stretch run and a challenge for the NFC East title. And indeed, in what has turned out to be a very poor division, they are not out of the race entirely. But there are still some people who are wondering whether they are getting Tony Romo back in the lineup a little too late. Romo returns after missing the last seven games with a broken collarbone, and he will start against the Miami Dolphins in a game that begins at 1 PM ET on Sunday at Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens. BetAnySports customers, even after the opening kickoff, can continue placing wagers against real-time odds when they take advantage of the state-of-the-art software available through Live Betting Extra.
In the NFL betting odds posted on this game by the people at BetAnySports, Dallas is slightly favored:
- Dallas Cowboys -1
- Miami Dolphins +1
- Over 46.5 points -110
- Under 46.5 points -110
In the two games Romo started, the Cowboys won. In the seven games he didn’t start, they lost. That seems to be a black-and-white issue, doesn’t it? Indeed, this Dallas club has lost each of its last 11 games when Romo doesn’t make the start. He has completed 54 out of 72 passes (75%), and he returns to a team that has gotten Dez Bryant back into action, whether it is on the field or in lively drama in the locker room.
The Dolphins fired coach Joe Philbin after a loss to the New York Jets in London, and then Dan Campbell came in to direct them to lopsided victories over the Tennessee Titans and Houston Texans. At that point the Dolphins look like a juggernaut, but the ether were off and they were beaten soundly in consecutive games at New England and Buffalo. Last week, however, they traveled to Lincoln Financial Field and defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 20-19. In that contest the challenge was to prevent Philadelphia from continuing to make strides with its running game, and that mission was accomplished, as they held the Eagles to just 83 yards.
Here is why people are watching the Cowboys so closely: they have either been tied or ahead in the fourth quarter in six of these last seven losses, so it is very easy to have the perception that an offense with Romo at the controls may have been the difference in several of those games. You can easily say that all of those defeats were winnable except for the 30-6 pasting they took at the hands of the New England Patriots. Considering that it was Romo who put together the masterful come back in the opening game against the New York Giants, who would have bet against him to engineer a few victories for Dallas along the way?
BetAnySports patrons should understand that in the division at the moment, the New York Giants are on top with a 5-5 record. So there is some “striking distance” for the Cowboys here. Sure, there are more than a few observers who are a little worried about whether Ndomukong Suh, regarded by some as a cheap shot artist, might come in with the intention of hurting Romo. But the Cowboys have no choice but to take that chance at this point.
Ryan Tannehill has been up-and-down for the Dolphins, and he simply has to get this team into better position to convert third downs. There is only one team in the NFL (the St. Louis Rams) who are worse than Miami when it comes to third-down conversion rate, as they have been successful only 29.5% of the time.
